Position Title: Commercial Specialist

Job Description
The Commercial Specialist is equivalent to a Senior Quantity Surveyor. The Commercial Specialist is responsible for providing commercial, contract management services and commercial advice associated with supporting the delivery of the capital programme working with partners including Programme Delivery. The Commercial Specialist develops and implements robust commercial strategies, processes and procedures to support partners to maximise the benefits of working collaboratively to outperform targeted outcomes.
Responsibilities:
- Support the Commercial and Contracts Manager with developing contracts and pricing mechanisms and leading commercial projects to drive best value.
- Working with partners to support compliance with contractual commitments.
- Collaborate with partners to support the process of calling off contracts from Frameworks at a project and/or sub-programme level.
- Maintaining a suite of commercial processes.
- Manage commercial risk through the development of risk registers and risk mitigation plans.
- Support partners with commercial advice and guidance including advising on NEC 4 suite of contracts documentation.
- Support development of contract strategies associated with a project and/or basket of projects.
- Provide partners with contract administration advice – primarily NEC4 suite of contracts.
- Assessing compensation events on behalf of a partner.
- Assurance activities associated certification of the amounts due.
- Undertake cost plans/estimates associated with a project and/or basket of work.
- Support partner’s management of defects.
- Support Commercial and Commercial and Contracts Manager in relation to the informal dispute resolution processes
- Working with the Commercial and Contracts Management Team in Commercial Services to ensure consistency of approach to contract management across the business
Requirements:
- Professional Qualification in Engineering (CEng), Construction Management (MCIOB), Quantity Surveying (MRICS) or relevant construction industry related experience and qualification.
- Experienced in managing all aspects of NEC contracts in a commercial environment.
- Experienced in commercial contract management.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective internal and external relationships.
- Experience of compiling, assessment, interpretation and communication of complex data.
- Able to communicate and engage people at all levels cross business and external.
- Clearly demonstrates ethical values and behaviours.
