Position Title: Quantum Applications Team Lead

Job Description

Together, our scientists, technologists, engineers and business support team explore the unknown and turn what they find into work that changes the world around us.

As part of the UK’s National Quantum Technologies Programme, UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) is leading a programme to establish a National Quantum Computing Centre, a commitment of £93m over 5 years, dedicated to place the UK at the forefront of the field.

A purpose-built National Quantum Computing Centre will be built and operated by UKRI at the Harwell Campus in Oxfordshire. The Centre will be open and operational by December 2022.

Responsibilities:

  • You will lead a team of Application Engineers who are developing quantum applications to provide solutions in response to real use cases.
  • You will act as a technical authority and work closely with colleagues and external stakeholders to devise solutions in response to meaningful use cases.
  • You will do this by identifying and implementing appropriate quantum algorithms.
  • You will build and maintain the workflows across the full lifecycle of quantum application development and deliver against a quantum application development roadmap.
  • You will make site visits to commercial and academic partners and present work at both internal and external meetings.

Requirements:

  • Quantum algorithm development
  • Quantum computing applications development
  • Quantum programming tools & languages
  • Familiarity with a range of professional tools and methods related to the development of applications for quantum computing
  • Experience of software tools and methodologies for reporting on and delivering R&D projects, including MS Office as a minimum

The Council has a broad science portfolio and works with the academic and industrial communities to share its expertise in materials science, space and ground-based astronomy technologies, laser science, microelectronics, wafer scale manufacturing, particle and nuclear physics, alternative energy production, radio communications and radar.
