Position Title: Building Clerk of Works

Job Description
We have a new and exciting opportunity for an experienced Building Clerk of Works to be responsible for overseeing and ensuring the safe, successful and technically compliant delivery of construction and maintenance works, in support of the STFC Estate and its Scientific Programme.
Responsibilities:
- Ensuring compliance of delivery – periodically inspecting schemes and their activities to ensure that they conform to statutory regulations and laws (focusing on The Construction Design Regulations 2015), this includes assisting the Construction Safety Advisor in audits
- Ensuring the compliance of work to the contracted specification – periodically inspecting schemes and their activities to ensure that they conform to STFC’s particular design specifications, and the requirements of the contract, making formal record of each inspection
- Monitoring workmanship and general quality –inspecting works at regular intervals to minimise problems, defects and rework and to ensure the highest level of quality and value for money is achieved for the Client
- Proactively reduce defects – through regular thorough inspection, factored into the construction programme, including formal sign off of completed milestone elements
- Make recommendations (where appropriate) to the Client Project Manager throughout the construction process, to improve efficiencies and ensure the best possible finished product for the Client
Requirements:
- Hold Membership status for The Institute of Clerks of Works and Construction Inspectorate
- Have a Site Management Safety Training Scheme (or equivalent) qualification
- Demonstrate significant experience in the building/construction industry, including a broad-based knowledge of building construction work, familiarity with contracts, supervising on site, and demonstrating effective prioritisation and decision-making skills.
- Must possess proven experience of defect analysis, preparing condition schedules/specifications for construction works.
- A good general understanding of the specific construction inspection process (in particular around the inspection of materials and workmanship) and have the ability to produce concise recordings of the findings
- An in-depth understanding of the defined roles and statutory obligations of all parties involved in construction delivery (in particular with reference to The Construction Design Regulations 2015)
