Position Title: Learning Experience Designer

Job Description

Under guidance and direction of the Manager, Curriculum Development and Excellence Team, the incumbent is part of the development team and supports the quality review, revision, and development of a wide range of CAPS offerings (I.e., Recognitions of Achievement, Micro-Credentials, Courses, Workshops, Badges, etc.). The incumbent applies a systematic methodology, based on adult learning and instructional theories and models, to design and develop content, experiences, and other learning solutions to support student acquisition of knowledge, skills, and competences. Utilizing a strong understanding of current and relevant educational technology, the incumbent advances the integration of eLearning and mobile learning principles and elements, multi-media, and other content authoring software to build flexible and learner-centric CAPS offerings.

Responsibilities:

  • Under direction of leadership, ensuring that all curriculum is grounded in valid and up-to-date evidence, expert work/opinion from multiple stakeholders, and that accurate copyright, citation, and AODA requirements are adhered to;
  • Under direction of leadership, facilitating scoping meetings to support an agile project management workflow, analyse needs of target audiences, and identify goals and specific objectives for course project plans;
  • Partnering with Support Staff and SMEs to co-create project plan activities, such as: CAPS action mapping course documents, Sheridan course outlines, and Learning Management System (LMS) content templates, design eLearning and mobile learning storyboards, interactive prototypes, multi-media elements, etc.;
  • Collaborating with Sheridan Library and other stakeholders to investigate new resources and learning solutions, such as Open Educational Resources, virtual or electronic sources/platforms, etc.;
  • Collecting relevant data related to instructional design for planning and budget purposes to contribute to data analysis, evaluation, and continual improvement of Curriculum Development and Excellence Team activities;
  • Evaluating concept proposals, curriculum development project plans, program review data, and a variety of current CAPS offerings to provide expert feedback and suggestions for improvement to ensure CAPS business meets quality, relevancy, and profitability metrics;
  • Building relationships and academic synergies with members of the Sheridan community to identify, enhance, and operationalize opportunities related to collaborative program development and excellence (I.e. Academic Faculties and Schools; Student Services; Research and Innovation; Equity, Diversity and Inclusion; etc.).;
  • Utilizing effective collaboration, communication, conflict management, and problem-solving skills to ensure project plan deadlines are met. Displaying business acumen and escalating concerns to leadership, as required;
  • Under direction of leadership, supporting the professional development of Support Staff colleagues and SMEs to continually advance the level of innovative, learner-centric offerings and strong identity and positive reputation of the CAPS academic portfolio;
  • Working with leadership to influence the application of current and emerging learning technology industry standards (SCORM, xAPI, IMS) that can be leveraged within the institution/department to support departmental and organizational objectives;

Requirements:

  • Minimum 4-years’ experience in educational technology, eLearning software and tools, and other software programs for instructional design for online, hybrid, eLearning, and mobile learning experiences.
  • Minimum 2-years experience creating curriculum project plans, specifically advising on integration of educational technology/software, comprehensive and evidence-based instructional materials, formative and summative authentic assessments, and effective student user-experience and engagement activities. Equivalency will be considered.
  • Experience participating in program and curriculum review/development, educational or training business quality improvement/development, or aligning curriculum/training to Quality Standards (Ministry, Organization, or profession driven).
  • Experience strengthening stakeholder and team member relationships, leading team meetings, and facilitating respectful dialogue and effective communication.
  • Ability to establish agile and iterative curriculum development workflow to implement project plan strategies according to timeline and financial benchmarks.
  • Ability to build learning experiences that align with the principles of inclusive and universal design and meet AODA and copy-right requirements.
  • Proficiency in using Adobe Creative Suite (including Photoshop, InDesign, Acrobat and Bridge), eLearning authoring tools, design programs, etc.
