Job Description
An exciting opportunity has arisen to support the Media and Public Relations team at Govia Thameslink Railway. Working with the Media and PR Manager, the Media and PR Executive will support the creation and distribution of positive news stories, as well as playing a significant role in responding to journalist enquiries and reputational issues. They will play a key part in improving the reputation and brand perception of GTR to its stakeholders and passengers. This position is the first line within a busy press office where no two days are ever the same. This is a great opportunity to learn and develop both your media relations and consumer PR skills in-house as part of a creative and dynamic team.
Responsibilities:
- Manage writing press releases, specifically focusing on good news stories to improve GTR’s reputation as part of a focused media strategy
- Develop excellent relationships with internal stakeholders to ensure good news stories are always captured and communicated
- Develop PR / Media drumbeat plan of projects across the year, so each release is well planned and targeted
- Work directly with media on relevant stories and ensure as much positive media coverage is leveraged across print, broadcast and social media
- Build strong two-way relationships with journalists, briefing on issues as well as selling stories in confidently
- Work on crisis communication planning, supporting with the ongoing development and management and be part of the media on call team
- Producing key presentations and reports each week for the Media and PR team and supporting with research as required
- Monitor, save and distribute copies of media coverage to the senior management team
- Respond to press office email and telephone enquiries across the day, escalating to the senior media team for their support as required
- Supporting media relations team admin tasks, i.e. completing weekly timesheets, raising purchase orders, organising press cutting and photograph files
Requirements:
- Excellent planning and organisational skills – able to prioritise effectively and adapt plans to change
- Good communicator – verbal and written (in particular, excellent standard of written English)
- Good team working skills and able to take and follow instruction
- Good understanding of media relations and PR, as well as the UK media
- Can do attitude, with a focus on finding solutions to tricky issues
