Position Title:Police Records Technician I

Job Description:

Under general supervision, to perform complex and confidential police records duties, including but not limited to, public service in person and via telephone, processing requests for public safety records from the public and other law enforcement agencies, compliance with California State Law requirements relating to arrest and confidential records, and other related work as assigned.

Responsibilities:

  • Data entry of criminal history and law enforcement information;*
  • Issuing city permits;*
  • Operate standard office machines;*
  • Assisting department personnel, outside law enforcement agencies, and the general public in person and via telephone;*
  • Collecting fees pursuant to the city fee schedule;*
  • Fulfill requests for public safety records in accordance with federal, state, and local laws and policies;*
  • Process and distribute police reports, notices, and conduct background checks in accordance with federal, state, and local laws and policies;*
  • Document and process lost and found property;*
    Verify identity and conduct fingerprint services for applicants;*
  • Other police department duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Takes lost and found reports over the phone and in person;
  • Provides advice on appropriate choices for animal adoption and proper animal care;
  • Assists compassionate and humane euthanasia and disposal of animals according to department protocols;
  • Sells dog licenses to City residents;
  • Bathes animals and performs related animal grooming and care; handles animals humanely and effectively under stressful situations;
  • Feeds and cares for a wide-variety of animals, typically dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, birds, and may include reptiles, wildlife and livestock;
  • Greets public and answers phones in a courteous and prompt manner;
  • Uses social media and email to match lost and found animals and contact possible owners;
  • Maintains detailed records and security of federally controlled drugs in compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations;
