Job Description
Melton Rail Innovation & Development Centre is basically a test centre for all manners of new rail vehicles to ensure they are safe to go on the mainline. Testing is done within the safe confines of a test track of up to 13 miles, fully equipped with overhead line equipment and 3rd/4th rail.
Responsibilities:
- Railway loves its abbreviations, that’s a fact. As an OSM (Operational Safety Manager) you would get your gloves on and actually manage the testing process, whether that’s by driving and conducting trains, shunting them to a specific plan or by acting as the Line Controller.

While work on the trains is the main focus of the role, you would also enjoy building strong relationships with a number of clients, customers, as well as maintaining high level communication with your colleagues.
Requirements:
- If you’ve never worked in a similar role before there is no need to worry, GB Railfreight will provide any and full training required for you to do the job and do it well.
- Initial training is a combination of classroom and on the job learning and you will be given full support by an experienced training team.
- A training salary of £19,328 per annum is in place for training, which usually takes around 3-4 months.
