Job Description

Within Ocado Group sits Platform Implementation, whose mission is ‘to orchestrate the implementation of Ocado’s platforms globally’. This department focuses on the full programme management life cycle of the implementation of our highly automated, multi-million pound Customer Fulfilment Centres (CFCs) – from pre-deal, through to the design, construction, installation, testing and ‘go-live’ phases (with all the process and portfolio management in between). This department is instrumental in ensuring we deliver these CFCs on time, to budget, and to the specific requirements of each client.

Within Ocado Automation Engineering sits the Central Product Engineering team who are responsible for the application, configuration and ongoing life support of our solutions used to power our automated CFCs. They are the engineering experts providing centralised specialist knowledge to multiple teams within Ocado.

The Product Engineer takes internal engineering ownership of (released) products from our development team or third parties where externally sourced . They carry out applications and configuration engineering of those products for our new build CFC’s around the world. Maintaining in depth product knowledge and directly supporting other teams during the design, manufacture and install phases of new CFC’s. Providing ongoing product support to resolve any engineering issues as well as providing valuable feedback to development team for future developments.

Responsibilities:

• Providing engineering product support, especially during design, installation & commissioning phases
• Proactively supporting engineering supply chain with engineering detail, including acceptance testing, and order specification
• Working closely with 3rd party suppliers to receive products and ensure successful handover of product to Central Automation Engineering team
• Identifying and managing the resolution of engineering change requests and product improvements
• Supporting Automation Engineering Implementation with installation expertise
• Reviewing, maintaining and communicating related product technical documentation

Requirements:

• Experience working with global external vendors/3rd party suppliers including involvement in technical tenders
• Experience of Mechanical Handling Equipment (MHE)
• IT literate, proficient with Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite and comfortable using CAD packages
• Demonstrable experience & success in Project Engineering and automation
• Experience of Acceptance Testing
• Aptitude to debate detail (both technical and commercial) with both internal and external parties
• Experience in the Field Installation of products and / or systems
• Experience of materials recovery facility / waste management solutions
• Commercially aware and consider cost impacts on decisions and proposals
• A Technical / Engineering qualification to degree level in a relevant field.
