Job Description:

This is a full-time, benefited position reporting to the Network Services Supervisor. Work involves assisting the Network Services Supervisor in providing computer and network services to the staff and patrons of the library.  Work is mainly during daytime hours, though some evening and weekend hours may be required.

Responsibilities:

• Assist with the specification, development, and deployment of secure public computers and peripherals.
• Assist with evaluating and implementing security solutions to ensure a more secure network and computing environment for the library staff and patrons.
• Assist with the analysis, implementation, and documentation of procedures to maintain network and internet standards and maintain a responsible presence on the internet.
• Assist with the evaluation, specification, development, and deployment of network operating systems, hardware, software, and emerging network technologies to benefit the library and its patrons.
• Maintain and repair existing hardware
• Resolve hardware and software problems
• Assist in the standardization and configuration of networked devices and infrastructure
• Prepare and install new computers, software, other network devices, and A/V equipment
• Assist staff in finding and assessing ways to offer expanded network, computer, A/V, and library services to the public
• Maintains regular punctual and predictable attendance, works overtime and extra hours as required.
• Provides initial support for RFID and Automated Materials Handling equipment
• Maintain computer hardware and software inventory
• Assist staff in finding ways to use hardware and software effectively

Requirements:

• Knowledge of audio/visual equipment
• Ability to diagnose and resolve various hardware and software problems in a network environment
• Ability to identify and address technical needs of users.
• Ability to sustain prolonged visual concentration
• Knowledge of current Microsoft Windows server and workstation operating systems and Microsoft
• Office products
• Ability to lift 50 pounds, and to push a loaded cart over carpeting.
• Knowledge of basic networking equipment, principles, and standards.
• Good oral and written communication skills
• Ability to use hand tools and test equipment related to network and computer repair.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Ability to maintain effective relationships with other employees
• Ability to evaluate and utilize new technologies.
