Position Title: Portfolio Manager

Job Description:

The Met Office is recruiting for an Enterprise Portfolio Manager. This role will be based in Exeter (60% homeworking).

The starting salary will be £45,150 with opportunities to progress to £49,890 over time. New joiners to the Met Office will start on the salary band minima.

Our total reward package for this role is potentially worth up to £63,611 per annum, which includes basic salary, potential corporate bonus, employer pension contributions.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the maintenance, upkeep of the P3M Centre, SharePoint and support the head of Profession and wider Community.
  • Drive high performance in the P3M space within Directorates through promoting and facilitating the use of P3M standards, policies, processes, procedures and artefacts required to ensure appropriate levels of consistency in the approach, outputs, reporting and governance associated with P3M roles
  • For those areas outside of your remit, play a key role in formal assurance reviews
  • Build long-term relationships with ‘Directorate’ senior management and P3M communities, seen as the initial ‘go-to’ for all P3M related activities
  • Work closely with the stakeholder groups to ensure that ITBM remains fit-for-purpose and is compliant to the processes.
  • Ensure Sub-Portfolio health is accurately reflected in monthly Board reports
  • Supporting with the functionality of the ServiceNow ITBM, Project and Portfolio Management (PPM).
  • Provide continuous assurance guidance, advice and support to your Directorate, throughout end to end delivery, identifying gaps in assurance, governance and controls, anticipating risks and facilitating suitable mitigations as required
  • Lead on the development and communication of planning guidance and dependencies mapping , working collaboratively with others in the Met Office
  • Promotes and embeds a culture of continuous improvement

Requirements:

  • Demonstrable evidence of strong interpersonal and communication skills with a proven track record of building robust, collaborative and productive relationships, using “soft power” to influence functional and organisational boundaries
  • Extensive experience of portfolio, programme and project management (P3M) with a thorough understanding of P3M lifecycles and process methodologies
  • Proven experience in managing assurance activities across projects, programme and/or portfolios
  • Ability to multi-task, effectively prioritise and consistently achieve quality outcomes
  • Clear, confident compelling communication skills enabling you to negotiate and influence at all levels
  • Strong analytical skills underpinned with sound judgement under pressure, a trouble shooter able to anticipate risks and facilitate successful delivery
  • Self-motivated, proactive and driven with an ability to work both independently and autonomously, but also as part of a team
