Job Description

The Public Safety Team prevent and protect those working, living, or visiting the city of Leicester from activities or events that could endanger their safety leading to injury, harm or damage which include employee safety, spectator safety and customer (MOP) safety.

Responsibilities:

As an Authority, we have enforcement responsibilities to ensure business owners such as nurseries and care homes have safeguards in place to protect vulnerable people, as well as proactively ensure the health and safety within places of work such shops, offices, warehouses, hotels, and pubs/clubs is compliant with regulatory requirements. We work with organisers for large scale events within the city to ensure adequate controls are in place for a safe event. Sports grounds safety interventions are carried out by the team all through the year. The team also work with public health protection agencies to prevent the spread of infectious diseases (including Covid-19) and to protect public.

Requirements:

You’ll have worked within a local authority setting and have sufficient experience of working as an Environmental Health Officer in a relevant area, e.g., health & safety, sports ground safety, event safety, or community public health. With previous relevant enforcement experience, you’ll have broad technical knowledge of Environmental Health enforcement matters. You’ll be qualified with either a degree or diploma Environmental Health or a qualification recognised by the Environmental Health Officers Registration Board as equivalent. Using experience and knowledge of IT systems, you’ll be able to maintain accurate and comprehensive records as well as produce reports. With tact and diplomacy, you’ll be able to maintain good customer care when dealing with irate or distressed members of the public.
