Job Description:
The City of Ventura is hiring! We have immediate vacancy for a Lead Water Distribution Operator III/IV with the City Ventura Water Department. Come join our team as we align our workforce to better serve our community together – they’re counting on us.
The Lead Water Distribution Operator III/IV assigns work by giving instruction and direction to assigned crew; develops work orders using Lucity AMMS, determines priority of work to be performed; implements new and/or revised methods, practices or procedures which improve the work flow or utilization of work crews time and abilities. This position will also schedule work related to meter testing and audits, water meter installations, repairs and change outs, moving and upgrading water meters and service lines, meter box repairs and replacement; monitors and inspect work in progress; assists in field activities as necessary.
The ideal candidate is energetic and organized, with excellent leadership skills and is able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. The candidate will possess strong working knowledge of a water distribution system, American Waterworks Association standards and California Water Resources Control Board standards. In addition, this person will be a motivated self starter with the ability to work independently and in a team environment. Finally, the candidate will have formal training in confined space hazard prevention, asbestos safe handling and disposal, traffic safety control and flagging.
Requirements:
- Possession of a valid California Water Resources Control Board Grade D3 Water Distribution Operator certification.
- Possession of a valid California Class C driver license is required. Within 6 months of employment, incumbent is required to obtain and, thereafter, maintain a valid California State Class A license with Auto Transmission and Air Brakes Restrictions – No Endorsement. Pursuant to the Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, drug testing is required.
- A combination of education, training and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and three years of related water system maintenance experience, one year of which should be in a journey-level capacity. Prior supervisory or lead experience and/or training highly desirable. Formal training in the following areas is highly desirable: confined space hazard prevention, asbestos safe handling and disposal, traffic safety control and flagging.
