Job Description:

The ideal candidate understands the principles of race and social justice and has a commitment to protecting the City’s interests with good faith and fair dealing to constituents. The Claims Adjuster works with a broad diversity of claimants, City employees and individuals from a multitude of backgrounds, ethnicities, and languages. Customer service is key in this role and requires the ability to work collaboratively with all customers, including challenging claimants and situations.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage a pending load of 100-150 claims that vary through a broad spectrum of property and personal injury circumstances that are unique to the public sector claims adjusting process.

  • Acquire, review, and assess medical and other types of records.
  • Communicate adjusting decisions to claimants, attorneys, and City departments.
  • Utilize a claims software database to track all data collection, loss prevention statistics, financial reserves and claim payments.
  • Research, understand and apply the principles of claims investigation and damage analysis, applicable insurance coverages, Washington State statutes, codes, and case law pertaining to third party liability claims.
  • May be required to monitor and supervise independent adjusters as needed based on workflow and represent the City in Small Claim actions.

Requirements:

  • Three or more years casualty claims adjusting experience; public sector experience preferred.
  • Strong written and oral communications skills and a collaborative approach to building relationships.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and ability to quickly learn and utilize new software programs, experience with claims or risk management database programs.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Aptitude for working independently in a deadline driven environment with shifting priorities.
