Position Title: Principal DevOps

Job Description

As a Principal DevOps Engineer you’ll have the unique opportunity to define, scale and develop our approach, this is truly a greenfield project. You’ll be a technical expert with a focus on application side DevOps and have the opportunity to build, improve and maintain critical services, thinking about DevOps and site reliability and how to do it across the full product lifecycle.

You’ll work with peers and leaders across the organisation more broadly to create our new operating model and work with existing vendors to onboard emerging services into the new way. We run and build services that are complex and large scale for the whole UK public and government, so this work really matters!

Responsibilities:

  • Working with your peers and with strategic vendors and the business to create and optimise our operational SRE ways of working.
  • Shape and build our engineering approach to Infrastructure; improving availability, latency, performance, efficiency, change, monitoring, emergency. response, and capacity planning as we pivot to product centric delivery and SRE operations.
  • Transform and shape systems engineering to build and run large-scale, massively distributed, fault-tolerant systems.
  • Devise and implement optimisations and automations that reduce technical debt; reduce operational costs and risks; automate toil; and improve the quality of infrastructure code.
  • Grow and develop individual DevOps and development engineers.
  • Drive continuous improvement and automation across services and infrastructure.
