Job Description

The successful candidate will initially be leading the project management function in Highways England’s second generation free-flow charging (FFC) service during the transition, customer cutover and aftercare support. This is a public facing, high-volume IT- enabled transactional service within a gov.uk environment. This is a high profile and forward-looking position with wide-ranging Government, stakeholder and customer interfaces.

Responsibilities:

• Take an active role in the delivery of the ER Strategy and plan throughout the business, acting as ER lead in assigned workstreams.
• Lead on Employment Tribunal cases, contributing towards submissions and actively managing cases to deadlines to ensure that National Highways is protected.
• Apply a risk based approach to case management, utilising sound judgement, skills and knowledge to intervene where required to conclude cases effectively and quickly.
• Working closely with HRBP’s and internal Employment lawyer to seek legal advice where necessary.
• Work collaboratively with people managers, broadening their capability by supporting ER cases to ensure consistent application of HR policies are processed across the
• business.
• Managing multiple complex ER cases, using and updating the case management system effectively, from receipt of a case through to its conclusion.
• Proactively represent ER and support Senior HRBP’s within directorates acting as role models for the organisational values and behaviours.
• Directly support in the implementation of new policies and processes and towards effective working relationships with Trade Unions.
• Leading on a variety of escalated ER cases and issues, using your knowledge in ER and employment law.
• Working collaboratively with Senior HRBP’s by coaching and mentoring people managers, helping them understand how best to deliver ER s services to all employees.
• Act as ER lead in the review and delivery of ER policies, materials and guidance to support the delivery of ER services. Lead and support the design of Learning and
• development material as the subject matter experts in all ER related advice.
• Deliver a high quality, customer and business focused and professional advice on all ER matters including reasonable adjustments, disciplinary, grievance, performance,
• attendance, flexible working and partial retirement cases, ACAS and Employment Tribunal claims and ER concerns.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree, preferably in HR, business administration, or a related field, or commensurate professional experience (Desirable)
• Qualified up to Level 7 CIPD (Desirable)
• A good understanding of employment law legislation
• Excellent stakeholder management skills
• Knowledge of governance guidelines, compliance and regulatory requirements
• Excellent communication, advisory and coaching skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with people managers and employees within the business
• Specialist experience in applying knowledge and supporting managers in complex cases in end-to-end core HR and ER experience
