Job Description:

Conducts professional administrative hearings throughout the district relative to possible disciplinary action and Step I and Step II grievances as designee for the Superintendent/CEO or the Director of Labor Management and Employee Relations; hearings are completed in accordance with the policies of the Board of Education, applicable labor agreement, Federal and state law, and the Civil Service Commission.  Works with district administrators to ensure that due process is followed in employee discipline and grievance matters and that well-reasoned and timely recommendations are submitted to the Director of Labor Management and Employee Relations in all matters.

Responsibilities:

  • Responds and participates in Columbus Civil Service Commission employee appeal hearings.
  • Works cooperatively with the district’s Office of the General Counsel to share information and discuss issues.
  • Provides assistance and guidance to district administration regarding employee rights and responsibilities under labor agreements, Board of Education policies, Federal and state law, and
  • Civil Service Commission rules; ensures that due process is followed in employee discipline and grievance matters.
  • Maintains discipline and grievance files and reports. Prepares required documentation and reports.
  • Acts as Director’s designee when assigned.
  • Conducts employee pre-disciplinary and grievance hearings; documents a summary of the hearing and states appropriate findings. Makes recommendations to the Director of Labor Management and Employee Relations regarding appropriate, progressive discipline and grievance disposition.
  • Acts as a liaison with administrators, union officials, and governmental agencies including taking calls from administrators to determine hearing type and schedule.

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated effective oral and written communications skills, including but not limited, to drafting memoranda, reports and recommendations.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively gather, compile, and analyze facts and pertinent information.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a diverse work environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and with strong judgment.
  • Demonstrated strength in cultural competence.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of, or experience in conducting workplace investigations.
