Job Description

Job Summary: Data is one of Beazley’s greatest assets. As Head of Data Science, you will be responsible for Beazley’s data science strategy and capability development. You will be responsible for the Group roadmap on data science and analytics capability, lead innovation in the business and adoption of new and improved models that enhance business outcomes and help develop and coordinate value delivery across functional teams. You will also work with the Chief Data Officer to mature data literacy and capability as Beazley undertakes a significant investment in modernization, enabling you to embed a culture of excellence in Data Science.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop ethics standards and expectations for analytics and modelling projects across Beazley
  • Implement effective Data Science frameworks that enhance capability and maturity across Beazley, and ensure appropriate, accurate and up-to-date intelligence is integrated into our systems at the point of need
  • Set analytical quality assurance standards and policies for modelling projects
  • Drive data science learning within the business and transparently communicate value delivery and your backlog to the wider user base
  • Lead on data science techniques where capability is not available in a business area
  • Provide a consultancy service to business domains which need varying levels of support to progress their data maturity and relevant activities. Work across the spectrum of statistical modelling including supervised, unsupervised, and deep learning techniques to apply the right level of solution.
  • Work in collaboration with IT and Operations to modernise data infrastructure and architecture
  • Engage with the market and product owners to understand problems and translate analytical problems.
  • Provide a platform to share best practices and new data products to enable cross collaborations and drive innovations.
  • Responsible for emerging developments with respect to tools, technologies, practices, etc in data science/machine learning.
  • Set up best practice data science capabilities and processes. Run proofs-of-concept to test feasibility and value. Advance the Data Science department in line with anticipated commercial business growth.
  • Expected to adhere to stringent quality assurance and documentation standards using version control and code repositories in every implementation.

Requirements:

  • Comply with Beazley procedures, policies and regulations including the code of conduct which incorporates the PRA and FCA Conduct Rules. Undertake training on Beazley policies and procedures as delivered by your line manager, Culture & People or assurance teams (compliance, risk, internal audit) either directly, via e-learning or the learning management system.
  • Display business ethics that uphold the interests of all our customers.
  • Ensure all interactions with customers are focused on delivering a fair outcome, including having the right products for their needs.
  • Comply with any specific responsibilities necessary for your role as outlined by your line manager, Culture & People or assurance teams (compliance, risk, internal audit) and ensure you keep up to date with developments in these areas. This may include, amongst others, Beazley’s underwriting control standards, Beazley’s claims control standards, other Beazley standards and customer relationship management.
  • Carry out additional responsibilities as individually notified, either through your objectives or through the learning management system. These may include membership of any Beazley committees or working groups
