Position Title: PROJECT ENGINEER

Job Description:
Employees in this class review, authorize and monitor the engineering design and construction of complex development and municipal engineering and utilities projects with a specific focus on water, wastewater and stormwater improvements and city-wide master planning/modeling. A major emphasis of work is monitoring and directing the work of engineering, architectural, and utilities consultants and contractors engaged in the design, permitting, and construction of City’s utilities and various other infrastructure projects.
Responsibilities:
- Prepares reports for upper management and stakeholder information.
- Performs related work as required.
- Proposes solutions for problems of design, construction, or maintenance of municipal public facilities, prepares reports and makes recommendations relating to the project and construction activities.
- Reviews permit applications and engineering plans, detailed specifications, and shop drawings for water, wastewater and storm drainage related work to ascertain that the design meets city standards; calculates permit fees and bonding fees; and prepares and maintains records and logs of the permit desk.
- Prepares required designs, specifications, estimates and technical reports for special projects; prepares reports, memorandums, and related correspondence pertaining to contract and regulatory compliance.
- Responds to inquiries from the public concerning drainage, utilities, and other engineering-related matters.
- Provides direction to consultants, contractors, departments, stakeholders, and other appropriate staff to ensure communication with all parties from design of a project through construction and completion.
- Provides capacity analyses for water and wastewater using modeling software.
- Performs CADD and some manual drafting work for special projects.
- Coordinates with other City departments, external agencies and applicants on projects.
- Provides technical information and guidance, addresses design issues pertaining to land development, water and wastewater utility construction, surface water management, roadway improvements and other public/private improvements.
- Provides input for developing/modifying City code provisions, engineering standard details, standard specifications.
- Works with inspectors to ensure that construction work is performed on schedule and in accordance with permit requirements and in compliance with established design, specifications, and contract agreements.
Requirements:
- Additional completion of coursework at an accredited college or university, may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalency
- Must have excellent phone and verbal communication skills and strong data entry skills.
- One (1) to three (3) years of general clerical work or customer service experience.
