Job Description:

Under close supervision, performs fire fighting, rescue, and emergency medical duties as required to control emergency incidents, and protects the lives and property of the City residents.

Responsibilities:

• Inspects and maintains personal protective equipment and assures that all equipment is in a state of readiness and available for immediate use.
• Performs preventive maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
• Performs other duties as assigned or required.
• Assists with inspection of buildings for fire hazards and compliance with fire prevention ordinances; may assist with fire investigations.
• Mitigates hazards, emergency situations and hazardous materials incidents.
• Assists with emergency medical and fire training for volunteers; participates in public education, prevention and safety activities.
• Responds to emergencies and non-emergency calls for service, and performs fire suppression, rescue, and emergency medical duties as required; determines the proper course of action and follows orders under stressful conditions.
• Assists in the maintenance of required departmental and emergency response records.
• Inspects and maintains Fire Department facilities, equipment and supplies; cleans, repairs and returns equipment to service after use.
• Operates emergency, fire, rescue, medical and life saving tools and equipment; assists and coordinates with law enforcement personnel and other responders as required.

Requirements:

• City’s geography; the location of all streets, sites and building locations; and the hazards of these facilities, to assure that firefighting activities are accomplished in a fast, effective and safe manner.
• Firefighting and emergency services techniques and procedures, and related safety issues.
• Recognizing the design, construction, utilization and contents of buildings in order to apply appropriate standard firefighting techniques.
• Must possess a High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• Assessing emergency medical patient needs, and providing emergency medical care.
• City policies and procedures.
• Following and effectively communicating verbal and written instructions.
• Providing firefighting, rescue, and emergency medical services under emergency conditions.
• Following orders under stressful conditions.
• Arizona or National Registry EMT certification is required in order to apply for this position. Certification must be current at the time of application. Arizona certification must be obtained at time of hire.
• Fire Department general orders, guidelines, policies and procedures.
• Performing maintenance and repair of firefighting vehicles, facilities and equipment.
