Position Title: Environment Advisor

Job Description
The Environment Advisor will work in partnership with other areas of the business to ensure good environmental management practices are embedded throughout GWR to help achieve the environmental targets outlined in the National Rail Contract.
Responsibilities:
- Implement the GWR Energy and Environmental Management Systems across the organisation to maintain ISO14001 and ISO50001 compliance
- Lead on all matters relating to ISO14001 certification; this will include liaison with the certification bodies and leading close out of audit actions
- Ensure training plans are in place that enable compliance and performance improvement
- Create and carry out internal environment audits
- Provide environmental management expertise and standard setting for GWR, ensuring that full compliance is maintained with legislation
- Taking a lead role on behalf of GWR to align sustainability priorities and approach with that of other FirstGroup Train Operating Companies and other relevant entities
- Lead a programme of behavioural change across the organisation to reduce energy water consumption, waste, and other environmental improvements
- Set up processes for and collect environmental and energy performance data, to be reported at GWR Level 1 meetings, to FirstGroup, DfT, RSSB
- Ensure there is a robust process for managing environmental complaints, that includes recording, monitoring, review, and where appropriate action with feedback
- Promote environmental initiatives by engaging with local champions keeping them motivated by empowering them to promote environmental initiatives and practices within their local areas
- Work closely with the GWR procurement team to advise on environmental management best practice in procurement
- Manage supply chain contracts (e.g., Waste management) to ensure contracts assist the delivery of recycling and zero waste to landfill commitments
- Engage with suppliers and other Train Operating Companies to achieve GWR vision, business values and long-term objectives in relation to the environment
Requirements:
- Member of IEMA or other related professional body
- HND or degree in a science or engineering subject or other environmental discipline
- Internal audit qualification preferable but not essential
