Job Description:

We’re looking for an energetic, positive individual who is capable of multi-tasking and enjoys working with the public. The Eligibility Technician A will be responsible for managing several different tasks that help support residents in securing public benefits for their household. The ideal candidate is resourceful, a good problem solver, and organized. Assuring a steady completion of the work in a timely manner is key to success in this position.

Responsibilities:

• Verifies information given by applicants by direct contacts, phone contacts and/or home visits.
• Informs applicants and recipients of relevant requirements and benefits of programs for which they may have eligibility.
• May be reassigned in emergency situations
• Determines the need for recovery of funds or referral for fraud investigation.
• Enters pertinent data into computer systems and uses appropriate systems to gather and verify data on applicants.
• Approves or denies applications and informs applicants within required time frames.
• Assists applicants in completing forms and securing documents and other verification needed in completing forms.
• Clarifies and interprets to clients their appeal rights and procedures.
• Gathers and reviews financial and other pertinent information from applicants and clients to be used in determining eligibility for all categories of public assistance and Medicaid.
• Performs related work as required.
• Informs recipients on an ongoing basis of changes in laws and regulations affecting their continuing eligibility.

Requirements:

• Basic knowledge of public assistance programs and other community agencies that provide assistance to clients
• Skill in interviewing
• Skill in communicating verbally and in writing
• Ability to work effectively with other employees, difficult clients, and the public
