Job Description

Exciting opportunities have become available for individuals to join the Operations Team at Heysham 2 Power Station as Unit Desk Engineers. These roles are primarily shift roles but, may include periods of day working.

On successful completion of training the Unit Desk Engineer will be responsible for operating a reactor/turbine unit and all associated equipment, including the performance of routine surveillance testing and plant performance monitoring. The post holders will be appointed a Duly Authorised Person under the Site Licence.

Responsibilities:

• Manipulates or requests assistance with plant changeovers or testing to support the Work Management process
• Supports the outage process (Forced, Statutory and Refuelling) by the provision of resource and technical skills
• Work within a team to ensure conservative decisions and actions are taken
• Reinforces attitudes and nuclear professionalism behaviours that improve performance and to achieve a safe working environment.
• Logs activities performed during the shift to maintain clear indication of plant status, significant events and all tasks performed during the shift. Using the log
• performs a comprehensive handover to the oncoming shift.
• Welcomes Challenge and challenges other staff to maintain the required standards
• Monitors and trends plant performance takes actions to maintain plant conditions within the normal range.
• Participates in training events and supports the Systematic Approach to Training by providing feedback
• Investigates or requests assistance to determine the cause of alarms or adverse indications.
• Ensures Operating procedures are fit for purpose by undertaking periodic or event based reviews and any necessary document amendments are completed.

Requirements:

• Suitable applicants will hold qualifications to the level of HNC in either a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics, although qualifications appropriate for Chartered Engineer status will be an advantage. Detailed knowledge and experience in power plant operation or nuclear reactor operation’s would be an advantage.
