Job Description:

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) deliver wide reaching digital services to the UK public and industry. We maintain the national record of vehicles and drivers. If you have applied for a driving licence, changed vehicle, re-licensed your vehicle or completed a vehicle enquiry you would have used one of our services.

We are looking for enthusiastic Software Engineers who will be comfortable working on a range of services at DVLA Swansea, across multiple products and technologies, covering both legacy and cloud-based applications.

This Software Engineer will be part of a Team involved in building, deploying and configuration managing bespoke software for DVLA’s internal and customer facing applications. You will be empowered to ensure that all code changes are controlled and released in line with defined processes to agreed delivery timescales in the least disruptive manner. You will also be responsible for the administration and support of software configuration management toolsets and collaboration tooling in use at DVLA.

Environment and Data management of non-Production environments will also fall under the remit of the team in which this role sits, so you will also be involved in activities ensuring that both environment and data specifications and config meet requirements of these key components.

Responsibilities:

• Identifying and implementing improvements in build release and environment configuration management capability including automation.
• Increasing your own knowledge and skills and developing an understanding of DVLA’s technologies and services.
• Developing and maintaining good relationships with stakeholders across the business.
• Manage work requests in line with an agreed delivery schedule, prioritising as necessary.
• Managing non-production environments in regard to ‘usage bookings’ and baselines therein for both application and infrastructure.
• Ensuring that software is consistently and reliably configuration managed throughout the application lifecycle.
• Building application software packages and deploying them to on-premise and cloud-based environments.
• Following and/or contributing to the development of documented processes.
• Providing administration support for software configuration and environment management toolsets and collaboration tooling.

Requirements:

• Experience in the execution of code build, release, deployment and software management procedures.
• Working collaboratively as part of a team.
• Working knowledge of application lifecycle development in an enterprise environment.
• Experience or good awareness of environment and data management and the critical role these play in software testing and delivery.
• Experience of software configuration management processes and tools in a complex environment.
• Attention to detail with ability to coordinate and control many different inputs and priorities without loss of accuracy.
