Job Description

First Contact and Specialised Services workers offer flexible support to existing placements in the community in order to prevent the admission of children into local authority care. They provide rapid response and intensive interventions to families where children are on the edge and edging towards care. The team offer a range of restorative interventions to encourage family decision making and responsibility for their children and young people by negotiating and discussing support within their family network to ensure the safeguarding of children and young people.

Responsibilities:

• Staff offer support and care to young people and looked after children within the out of hours residential establishment in accordance with the policies and procedures of Durham County Council.
• This will include providing services to young people and families when required which includes evenings and weekends.
• Mediation and a range of restorative interventions is offered to families within their family network to ensure the safeguarding of children.

Requirements:

• This is a seven day service (not including Bank Holidays) and staff undertake some evening and weekend work to provide this.
