Position Title: Data Scientist

Company: London North Eastern Railway

Location: Nottingham, UK

Job Description

The railway is a visible service used by millions, meaning your work will be impactful and have wide reaching implications. You will work within a new team of product managers, data scientists and machine learning engineers to deliver projects from start to finish – from ideation, to proof of concept, production, and maintenance/business as usual.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct feasibility and practicality testing of business challenge-led machine learning ideas, to help strengthen the data science portfolio
  • Develop statistical algorithms and machine learning models using the AWS stack, providing quality assurance by code checking
  • Build productionised model solutions to enable benefit realisation following a standardised approach using coding best practice.
  • Undertake data engineering tasks such as data manipulation, visualisation and feature development.
  • Contribute to business wide engagement – sharing project outputs with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Provide expertise to enable the Engineers to develop the data architecture, infrastructure and ML Ops practices needed to successfully implement and embed machine learning.

Requirements:

  • Experience of taking on novel, business-challenge led problems, developing algorithms iteratively and implementing productionised operational solutions to drive the benefit of machine learning.
  • Knowledge of best practices for statistical data modelling, analysis and exploration, machine learning.
  • Fluent in writing well-structured Python code for machine learning algorithms, preferably using the AWS machine learning stack.
  • An excellent command of the basic libraries for data science (e.g. NumPy, Pandas).
  • A solid grasp of standard data science techniques, for example, supervised/unsupervised machine learning, model cross validation, Bayesian inference.
