Job Description

Responsibilities:

• Remain sufficiently agile to respond to new developments as well as support initiatives that open up new markets or opportunities for UK companies over longer time scales.
• Possess a client focussed approach to helping UK businesses to export and invest overseas, joining up with UK regional operation and UK Export Finance to ensure no export fails due to a lack of finance.
• Provide leadership for your sectors, building high performing, expert, engaged and inclusive teams.
• Act as the centre of sectoral subject matter expertise within the department and lead on the continuous development of sector knowledge and capability across DIT, in the UK and overseas
• Work in partnership with business, building relationships at the most senior levels in the sector to deliver departmental priorities, supporting Ministers in their engagement with the sector in the UK and overseas.
• Own sector trade and investment plans, working in partnership with HM Trade Commissioners across 9 regions, to successfully implement Regional Trade Plans.

Requirements:

• Excellent strategic thinking and high intellectual energy, proven ability to draw out strategy and links from complex and fast evolving contexts.
• Outstanding communication and influencing skills, with the ability to manage, collaborate and engage a wide range of senior stakeholders from across and outside Government, including overseas with differing and conflicting views. • A proven track record of successful leadership in a complex and dynamic environment in either the private or public sector, with an engaging, adaptable leadership style to connect with people at all levels.
• Evidence of demonstrated finely tuned judgement and the credibility to be a trusted advisor to Ministers or senior officials.
• A successful track record of promoting and achieving business investment and development on behalf of the UK private sector in the respective industries internationally.
• Deep knowledge of either the , Retail, Education, Digital Services or Sport sectors or all of these sectors.
• Evidence of having built successful business relationships and contact networks at a very senior level (C-suite level in the private sector).
