Position Title: PROJECT ENGINEER

Job Description

Assists the Manager, Construction for a variety of engineering assignments related to or in association with capital construction projects including leading the City’s technical staff in design, survey, and construction inspections.

Responsibilities:

• Assists in the preparation of the annual capital and operational budget by preparing cost estimate of projects including cost of engineering, design, inspection, surveying, utility relocation, construction and related costs.
• Provides technical expertise and consultative services to internal staff as well as contractors for inspection and design constructability matters.
• Assists in tender and specification preparations as required.
• Manages requests for land acquisition and participates in negotiations.
• Manages the design of Capital projects to ensure the design meets design standards, safety, economics and environmental concerns.
• Obtains and monitors all project approvals from Government bodies and various agencies, ensuring compliance to permit requirements.
• Responsible for the procurement of consultants and other agencies to provide various services during construction phases, including preparing RFQ’s and RFP’s.
• Provides recommendations for construction related claims from contractors, consultants and agencies, Liaises with other public bodies – Hydro, Region of Peel, Gas, Bell Canada etc. regarding the relocation of utilities to accommodate new construction.

Requirements:

• Must have training in engineering computer applications, word processing and spreadsheet applications.
• Training in project management is an asset.
• Excellent communication skills both oral and written.
• Ability to work with deadlines.
• Report writing skills and excellent presentation and negotiations skills.
• Must possess a valid Class “G” Ontario Driver’s license in good standing, with a reliable vehicle for business purposes.
