Overview
Position Title: Director of Leadership
Company: Cabinet Office
Location: Edinburgh, UK
Job Description
The Director of Leadership is a new role at the head of the teams which – either directly or indirectly – design, assure, and deliver leadership development programmes, and management training, for our 460k Civil Service workforce and 1.2k public sector leaders. It comprises strategy and implementation. It requires leadership at scale, of people, and projects, and high-profile Government priorities. It carries an almost limitless potential to convene, amplify, and respond practically to the biggest challenges of our time.
The Government Skills and Curriculum Unit has a bold and ambitious vision, and a rare opportunity to improve public policymaking and public services for many generations. As the Director of Leadership you will play a vital role in further defining the new five-strand curriculum framework, ensuring ‘strand 3’, leadership and management, is precise, relevant and universally accessible to all civil servants, both senior civil service and below. This will reshape the way leadership and management are understood and valued. It will ensure that all executive education and development programmes are complementary, coherent, and effective, of which the National Leadership Centre and Civil Service Accelerated Development Programmes are critical illustrators, and components of success.
You will also be responsible for explaining and expanding the work of the National Leadership Centre with public service leaders, continuing to break down the increasingly artificial barriers between ‘Policy’ and ‘Delivery’, ‘Strategy’ and ‘Implementation’, and Whitehall and the wider public service.
About Cabinet Office
The Cabinet Office Electoral Integrity Programme (EIP) will deliver key Government manifesto and ministerial commitments including the national roll out of Voter ID; making it easier for overseas electors to vote; improving the transparency of political campaigning; measures to secure our democratic processes, improving the security of postal and proxy voting; and making polling stations more accessible. To deliver this transformational work, it is expected that the Cabinet Office will introduce substantial primary legislation into Parliament at the earliest opportunity. The Programme will run change projects concurrently to deliver substantial supporting secondary legislation, digital innovation and the infrastructure across the United Kingdom to support the successful delivery of the Government’s vision.
