Position Title: Economic Adviser to Catherine L Mann

Job Description
This vacancy is a permanent position as Adviser to Catherine L. Mann. You will work at the heart of monetary policy, supporting on policy decisions and public communications. The precise balance of responsibilities is very flexible and can be adapted to suit the successful candidate’s preferences and ability.
Policy work will involve analysis on a broad range of macroeconomic issues important to Catherine’s policy interests and decisions. It will include drawing on your own experience and expertise to carry out original analyses that offer new perspectives on the relevant economic data. You will discuss ideas and results directly with Catherine to help her formulate and explain her policy views.
You will also be involved in delivering material for Catherine’s speeches, preparing presentations and helping her get ready for appearances before the Treasury Select Committee.
Responsibilities:
- The ability to apply macroeconomic analysis to a wide range of conjunctural and policy questions.
- Experience of analysing data and applying econometric techniques.
- The ability to bring different strands of research together and make sense of sometimes conflicting evidence.
- Good oral and written communications skills. Experience in communicating economic material to technical and non-technical audiences.
- The ability to independently develop research and answer questions that are relevant to the monetary policy debate.
- The ability to work well in a small team while liaising with colleagues elsewhere in the Bank.
- A willingness to constructively challenge the opinion of colleagues.
Requirements:
- Experience in drafting speeches and speaking notes for senior policymakers.
- Experience in working at an international central bank or other financial institution.
- Proficiency in at least one econometric package (e.g. Matlab, R, Stata).
