Position Title:Animal Control Shelter Attendant

Job Description:
Under general supervision, to perform a variety of duties involved in the constant cleanliness of cages, runs, and shelter areas to include feeding, watering, and handling of animals at the animal shelter.
Responsibilities:
- Operate a variety of animal equipment and tools including control pole, lead rope, portable cage, euthanasia materials, and cleaning apparatus.
- Materials, methods, and practices used in cleaning operations.
- Controlling/handling individual animal temperament to gain animal confidence when restraining them for transport, grooming, and/or treatment.
- Computer data entry operations.
- Perform data entry into computer database and to query the database for information.
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, both internally and externally.
- Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.

- Common diseases, their symptoms, means of transmission.
- Learn occupational hazards and standard safety precautions in handling animals.
- Operate office equipment, including computer equipment.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Provide professional customer service.
- Restrain animals for procedures performed by the technicians or veterinarian.
- Listen, evaluate and understand the needs of customers when matching adoptable animals with the customer.
- Prepare and maintain routine records.
- Domestic animal and livestock behaviors.
- Effectively interact with animals and humans to make reclamation and adoption of animals.
Requirements:
- Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment:
- May be required to use strength and/or agility in capturing and restraining stronger, more active animals.
- Frequently work in a bent over position.
- With or without accommodation, ability to lift up to 50 pounds and team lift up to 100 pounds.
- Ability to work closely with all types of domestic animals.
- Exposure to bites, scratches, and animal wastes.
- Exposure to unpleasant odors, cold, heat, noise, outdoors, vibration, and chemicals.
- Walking and/or standing for extended periods of time.
- Ability to sit, stand, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, crawl, twist, and climb.
