Job Description

This is a fantastic opportunity for a Cleaner to join our team. Reporting to the Bus Station Manager and Cleaning Supervisors, you’ll be a valued member of the team working on the bus stations and alongside the Customer Service team. Your primary duty is to ensure the safety of all using the station. You’ll work around varying conditions including periods of exceptionally high footfall, seasonal issues such as grit walked in from the highway and require excellent prioritisation of tasks dependant on the specific situation.

Responsibilities:

You’ll clean public and staff only areas both indoors and outside on the bus stations including toilets. You’ll empty litter bins, vacuum/sweep designated communal areas as well as remove unpleasant substances. You’ll ensure your work is completed in line with COSHH regulations, and those relating to health and safety and the use of mechanical equipment. Maintaining basic security checks such as locking and unlocking areas of the building, checking lost property using HOT principles and similar, you’ll ensure the bus station is kept safe. You’ll carry out manual handling of cleaning equipment, a range of tools and buckets of water in between work areas. Quite often as the first point of contact in the station, you’ll provide a friendly, high quality customer service by assisting members of the public where you can or signposting them to the Customer Service Officers.

Requirements:

You’ll have experience of carrying out general cleaning duties ideally in public areas. You’ll have basic literacy and numeracy skills to maintain cleaning records and complete incident forms. With an awareness of your duties in relation to health and safety, you’ll be able to use mechanical cleaning equipment and chemicals safely. You’ll be able to work in unpleasant environments such as public toilets, outdoors in winter months and around moving vehicles. With the ability to be comfortable with working around the public including in actively used toilets, you’ll be able to work on your own with minimal supervision and use your initiative.
