Job Description:

Reporting to the Ops Solution Manager, the Ops Solution Engineer will examine data & processes to help solve operational problems, deliver new products & help quantify their cost and impact on the network. The Ops Solution Engineer will own the Ops Discovery process for smaller projects whilst supporting the Ops Solution manager on larger projects. Discovery packs will be completed across all areas of the Operation, ensuring proposed solutions are documented and presented in a standardised format. Over time the Ops solution Engineer will support with creating cost models & detailed solution designs across both warehouse & transport.

Responsibilities:

• Proactively liaise with senior management within Change, Innovations, IT, Commercial, Marketing and
• Product teams to capture all potential developments, ensuring they are added to the Ops Discovery roadmap where an operational solution is required.
• Deliver, embed and continually improve an Ops Discovery strategy to generate, assess and catalogue ideas for operational improvement in line with business levers and strategy.
• Maintain strong relationships with Operational teams and Ops Dev/Support functions to continually develop operational knowledge and capture any improvement ideas that need to go through Ops Discovery.
• Provide clear handover of solutions to project teams, providing on-going consultative expertise to ensure requirements are accurately captured for delivery.
• Monitor implementations to understand whether Ops Discovery outputs were accurate, feeding back on findings and using them to continually improve the discovery process and update any models
• Proactively support the Ops Data Science function, providing key operational knowledge and expertise to ensure more complex data science models and simulations accurately reflect the operation.
• Provide cover for the Ops Solution Manager, picking up and delivering on all associated responsibilities in their absence.
• Support the Ops Discovery roadmap, appropriately allocate your time, resource and prioritise decisions / projects to meet deadlines in line with the overall business strategy.
• Support with creating and documenting innovative operational solutions to deliver new ideas, products and initiatives. Initially leading smaller projects/products (Developing into network wide solutions), collaborating with the relevant operational experts including Systems Specialists, Process Managers and Ops Dev Managers, to ensure solutions are feasible and the impacts fully understood.
• Actively generate your own improvement ideas and present these to the Ops Solution manager & other area leads.
• Understand, utilise and continually improve a core Operational Cost Model to more efficiently quantify solution costs, using Ops Data Science resource where appropriate.
• Support Discovery outputs, ensuring findings are clearly articulated to stakeholders for sign off and cataloguing them for future reference where immediate delivery is not agreed.

Requirements:

• Advanced skills in MS Excel, Outlook & PowerPoint
• Degree level education preferably within a Supply Chain Management & Logistics, Project Management,
• Planning or Business Analytics discipline
• Experience working with Change Functions
• Must be a strong communicator
• Ideally have an operational background & understand cost, productivity & service measures.
• Ability to easily highlight and identify trends within data
• Experience in Process Mapping
• Experience in Solution Design
• Experience with Cost Models
• Ability to use data to make good business recommendations
• Experience in building business cases and value stream mapping
• Problem solving and analytical thinking
• Full UK Driving License and ability to travel
