Job Description
As the Deputy Director of Engagement, reporting to BDUK’s Senior Responsible Officer, you will lead BDUK’s Engagement and Public Information function. The role is part of BDUK’s Senior Leadership Team, a group of 8 leading a commercial delivery team of approximately 250.
Responsibilities:
- Development and implementation of the overarching stakeholder engagement strategy, managing BDUK engagement with a wide range of stakeholders including: parliament, lobby groups, devolved administrations, local bodies, trade groups and 80+ industry suppliers.
- An active approach to coaching and professional development within your team.
- Horizon scanning, troubleshooting and risk management of high-profile and high-impact issues, working closely with senior stakeholders to manage and mitigate them.
- A member of the BDUK Senior Leadership Team, contributing to wider decision-making.
- Leadership of the BDUK Engagement and Public Information function, currently a team of 10.
- Ensure value for money, financial propriety and onward evaluation of engagement products.
- An active senior member of the DCMS wider SCS team, with close working relationships with DCMS colleagues key to success in this role.
- Develop KPIs to monitor the success of the BDUK Engagement and Public Information function.
Requirements:
- A successful track record of managing strategic engagement with stakeholders in a challenging, high profile area of policy development and/or programme delivery, ideally at the interface between the commercial market and public policy.
- Significant leadership experience, bringing energy and drive both to your individual role and to your team;
- Excellent presentation skills with the ability to represent BDUK/DCMS at a very senior level.
- Together with the ability to present complex technical and financial issues in a clear way, verbally and in writing, so that they are easily and fully understood by ministers and a wide range of other groups.
- Experience in policy development and the workings of Parliament. Some experience in the private sector would be helpful, although not essential.
- Experience of championing diversity and inclusion and promoting actions to make improvements as well as experience of creating diverse and inclusive teams that are motivated and inspired to work together to achieve a common objective.
